What does OEM stand for in cosmetics?

OEM stands for "licensed manufacturing factory" or "licensed production". In the cosmetics industry, OEM is commonly known as "contract manufacturing factory" or "contract processing". The client (distributor) requires the OEM to produce qualified products according to specified raw materials, production processes, equipment, packaging, etc.; or to independently develop and produce qualified products that meet the client's requirements based on the brand's demands, while the client is only responsible for market operations and product marketing. OEM cosmetics are tailor-made by OEM for brand manufacturers. After production, they can only use the brand name designated by the client and are not allowed to use the name of the producer for further production. 

For instance, many foreign major brand companies sell their products in China not by manufacturing them themselves, but by entrusting a certain domestic cosmetics manufacturing enterprise in China to process and customize them according to their requirements. This can significantly reduce the production costs. The OEM products of these foreign major brands in China are often much cheaper than those produced in their original countries. 

For another example, a certain domestic enterprise has a product with a market and sales channels, but its production capacity is limited. To increase production volume and sales, reduce the risks of launching new production lines, and gain market time, it entrusts other manufacturers of similar products to produce the products through contract ordering. The ordered products are purchased at a low price and directly labeled with its own brand trademark. The products produced through this cooperative method of entrusting others to manufacture are also considered OEM products.
